There are many factors that influence your health. A healthy lifestyle has four major components: 1. Self-awareness 2. A balanced dietà 3. Regular physical activity 4. Rest and relaxation 1. Self Awareness In order to lead a healthy lifestyle, it is essential that individuals constantly monitor their health. This involves not only physical, but also mental and emotional aspects of the bodyââ¬â¢s functioning, as they relate to the home, school, work, and leisure environments. If necessary changes are made sooner rather than later, then a stable, balanced and healthy lifestyle will be more consistently maintained. 2. The degenerative diseases of the circulatory, respiratory and musculo-skeletal systems which are now so predominant, are a consequence of our technical society. Many technological advances are intended to eliminate physical exertion from everyday activities. At the same time, life in an increasingly complex and competitive society, with pressing business and domestic obligations and deadlines, can make the maintenance of a regular physical exercise programme more difficult. Physical activity develops and maintains a level of health sufficient to carry out normal occupational and leisure pursuits without undue fatigue, and decreases the risk of too early disability or death. It cannot be said that regular activity will extend lifespan, but the quality of life will certainly be enhanced.

Then these small, light-brown colored crabs scuttle quickly into their dark holes. Gender in most African countries is still an issue to be looked upon. Boys are always preferred when it comes to access to education especially when resources to take children to school are limited. For instance, even if a girl had a better score than a boy, parents in most of African countries will prefer to take the boy for higher learning. Studies have shown that most of the poorest women in most countries have not even completed their primary school. Poverty is another impact on education. Children from poor households are less likely to perform well in class. These children usually have less participation in class, their level of terminology is low hence unlikely to perform well. Their parents cannot afford good nutrition for their kids and as a result, kids may have nutritional related illnesses and their education is disrupted. Parenting is the process of upbringing children. A childââ¬â¢s parent is commonly their first educator. Parents have roles of ensuring that their children are prepared for school, for example by ensuring that they have sufficient food and good health, this is necessary for a child concentration in class which results to good performance. It is at home that parents mostly emphasis on virtues such as hard work, integrity and commitment. The Society also has an impact on education. Community customs and practices have a great impact on education, which can either be helpful or damaging. For example, communities with traditions that encourage early marriages for girls prevent them from accessing their fundamental right to education. Technology, which is being embraced quite well in most countries, has a great impact on studentsââ¬â¢ performance. This is majorly for students in higher learning institutions. Danger and Hope in the Information Age Where can we find hope in todayââ¬â¢s information age? To answer this question satisfactorily one must be clear as to its presupposition. To find hope in the information society means that there appears to be something wrong with it, so that one needs to search for hope in such a society. In this paper I would like to outline some of the perils of today's information society and to point out that, though the perils are real and very strong, we nonetheless can overcome them through concerted action which I shall outline in the sections to follow. In short, I would like to show that there is a realistic, practicable hope in todayââ¬â¢s information society, but such a hope can never come into fruit without effort. Hope does not come through a total negation of the technology, nor does it come through a blind adherence to it. Rather realistic hope can obtain only through concerted effort to understand the implications and impact of the technology. As for the cultures of the Third Word, where the potential dangers of the technology appear grave, hope can come through strengthening of local resources and searches for ways to co-opt the technology and to adapt it into the culturesââ¬â¢ particular life-world. Human society is increasingly characterized by an increasingly pervasive use of technologies, notably among which are the information and communication technologies (ICTââ¬â¢s). Today in Bangkok one could hardly fail to be giant billboards exhorting commuters to log on the Internet and visit one web site or another. Name cards increasingly carry email addresses as well as personal web sites. In Thailand, new Internet cafà ©s spring up everyday like mushrooms in rainy season. Nowadays it is estimated that there are around four million people on the Internet in the country, up from just one or two million just a few months ago. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, around 12. 5 million children and teens are obese. There are many things that contribute to this epidemic like poor diet and lack of physical activities to name a few. In this paper I will figure out if there is a correlation between childhood obesity and school cafeteria food. Many people feel that school cafeteria food is partly to blame for childhood obesity. I believe this is an example of correlation and causation.Data analysts often jump to unjustified conclusions by mistaking an observed correlation for a cause-and-effect relationship. A high sample correlation coefficient does not necessarily signify a causal relation between two variables (Johnson, (2010). Though I believe schools play a particularly critical role by establishing a safe and supportive environment with policies and practices tha t support healthy behaviors. Schools also provide opportunities for students to learn about and practice healthy eating and physical activity behaviors. But they should not be blamed schools for childhood obesity.Studies regarding childhood obesity need to consider: socio-economic background, genetics, what is tough at home, and if parents are obese; before schools can be blamed. Obesity is a problem that affects Americans at an alarming rate across all age, race, and gender categories. No single group is immune to the causes, occurrences, and the recent increases in the rate of obesity. However, what may be of greatest concern for researchers is the fact that while Americans enjoys an increasingly higher standard of living; obesity among children continues to grow.Nevertheless, there is to date no cure, or even universal treatment for the problem of childhood obesity. This is partly due to an inability to precisely pinpoint the cause, or causes, of the increases. Thus, we are left with a debate over which causes play the greatest role in childhood obesity and a plethora of prevention and treatment theories. Yet at the same time, it is clear that the occurrence of childhood obesity places those afflicted at increased risk of health problems now and in the future.Overweight and poor nutrition of children in the United States are becoming issues of increasing concern for public health. Dietary patterns of U. S. children indicate that they are consuming too little fruits and vegetables and too many foods high in fat and sugar. Contributed to this pattern of food consumption is snacking, which is reported to be on the increase amongst adults and children alike. One place where snacking is under increased scrutiny, where it is being increasingly criticized, is in U. S. chools, where snack foods are often to sold to supplement inadequate budgets (Crooks, (2003). ââ¬Å"Essentially overweight and obesity result from energy imbalance. The body needs a certain amount o f energy (calories) from food to sustain basic life functions. Body weight is maintained when calories eaten equals the number of calories the body expends, or ââ¬Å"burns. â⬠When more calories are consumed than burned, energy balance is tipped toward weight gain, overweight, and obesity. Genetic, environmental, behavioral, and socioeconomic factors can all lead to overweight and obesityâ⬠(Butte, (2007).Although some school cafeterias get a failing grade in nutrition, others are working hard to serve healthy meals for breakfast and lunch and to banish junk food from the premises. According to a new survey (Alliance for a Healthier Generation, 2009), most parents want schools to limit studentsââ¬â¢ access to high-calorie, low-nutrient chips, sodas, and candy and to provide more opportunities for physical activity throughout the day. I remember my days in school when lunch consisted of fries, pizza and burgers. Today schools are trying to give their students some healt hier options.However teachers cannot force children to eat healthy food and exercise on a regular basis. They can provide children with a good idea of what foods that they should and should not eat. However this information is rendered useless if parents do not follow up on it at home. Ideally parents should take the time to teach their child what they should eat so that they grow up strong and healthy. They can do this by teaching their children about good nutrition and backing it up with healthy breakfasts, lunches and dinners.Parents should lead by example as children look to their parents for tips on how they should behave. This is evidenced by the fact that most obese children have obese parents. Parents can teach their kids to lead a healthier lifestyle by educating them on the importance of good food, regular exercise and how calories work. By doing this they will be able to take charge of their weight by making educated choices on their food and exercise routines. Whether in matters of social development or physical health, parents are typically considered the primary agents of childrenââ¬â¢s socialization and well-being.Also suggested to help curb childhood obesity parents need to improve their knowledge of child nutrition and decrease television viewing (Gable and Lutz, (2000). In conclusion the childhood obesity problem cannot be placed solely in the hands of schools. Childhood obesity is a global health challenge with no single cause and no single solution. This challenge demands more than individual efforts. It demands changes in public health policies and in the built environment at the local, state, and federal levels to prevent obesity beginning in early childhood and to make treatment available to overweight and obese children and adolescents.Without a concerted, cohesive effort to reverse the obesity epidemic, todayââ¬â¢s children will have shortened lives filled with chronic illness. After all, schools seem to be natural places in whic h to enact cost-effective interventions on children. But schools do not seem to be good at drastically changing a studentââ¬â¢s weight, and the elimination of junk food sales in schools is unlikely to upend the child obesity epidemic. The challenge is to develop interventions that reach into the home and community.Perhaps those interventions can start with schools, but they must reach beyond them to be effective. Socrates and Plato essays Socrates was a common Athenian whose father was a stonecutter and mother a midwife. (Jowett, 7) Plato was an Athenian aristocrat who early in life came under the influence of Socrates. He wrote more than twenty dialogues, many of which feature his teacher and hero, Socrates. (Jowett, 7) Socrates left no writings and most of what we know about him was left by Plato. One of the most famous pieces that were left by Plato was the Court of Justice hearing with Socrates vs. Meletus. Meletus proclaims in this hearing that Socrates is a bad Athenian and that he also has been corrupting the young. He also states that Socrates is a complete Atheist and does not believe in the gods at all. Socrates seems like a very smart individual during this hearing as he makes Meletus contradict himself over and over throughout the hearing. The questions that Socrates asks are very straight forward and Meletus has a hard time answering them because it seems as if he knows that Socrates is trying to make him answer easy questions first, and have a spin-off of the same question, but in different context, and he knows that his answer will probably differ from is original answer. This does happen, and throughout most of the trial Socrates makes Meletus look very foolish to the judges. Then he quits asking questions to Meletus and starts deliberating his case to the judges and to the audience. His points throughout his deliberation are very simple and quite mind boggling. He points out that people delight in spending time with him, because he point out the people that believe they are wise and in actuality are not. He also states that he never gives advice publicly or at an assembly advising the state, but gives it privately while peddling around mingling with young scholars. Reading your text aloud to yourself helps to ensure that it flows like a conversation. 4. ââ¬Å"If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it.â⬠-Elmore Leonard Steinbeck and Leonard share similar writing wisdom. Whether you choose to read it aloud or rewrite it, take their advice and find a way to make your writing sound less likeâ⬠¦ writing. 5. ââ¬Å"Protect the time and space in which you write. Keep everybody away from it, even the people who are most important to you.â⬠-Zadie Smith As writers, itââ¬â¢s crucial that we protect our personal space from the multitude of distractions we are faced with every day. Roommates, friends, family, work, and the neighbor's dog all can make it difficult to produce your best work. If youââ¬â¢re available to everybody and everything, you will feel drained and fatigued. When it comes to your work, you're not in the wrong for protecting your personal space. 6. ââ¬Å"In the planning stage of a book, donââ¬â¢t plan the ending. It has to be earned by all that will go before it.â⬠-Rose Tremain Many writers will disagree with this quote. If you start with the end in mind, and that works for you, then maybe this advice isnââ¬â¢t for you. Rose Tremain, the English novelist suggests you earn the ending based on what you've developed beforehand. 7. ââ¬Å"Always carry a notebook. And I mean always. The short-term memory only retains information for three minutes; unless it is committed to paper you can lose an idea for ever.â⬠-Will Self Will Self has authored ten novels, five short stories, three novellas, and five collections of non-fiction writing. The English novelist isnââ¬â¢t the only writer to carry a notebook at all times. Never forget that fleeting idea that could be your next great novel. Without writing them down, those forgotten thoughts will only come back to distract you and hold your mind prisoner. Self is in good company. Richard Branson, the English business magnate, carries a notebook everywhere he goes. The billionaire considers himself a student of life. 8. "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." ââ¬âLeonardo Da Vinci You can findà hundreds of writers who elect to use more straightforward language to get their point across. Sometimes, we assume that a bigger vocabulary means better writing, but thatââ¬â¢s simply not true. Here are a few more quotes to get the point across. ââ¬Å"Writing isnââ¬â¢t about using words to impress. Itââ¬â¢s about using simple words in an impressive way.â⬠- Sierra Bailey ââ¬Å"If you canââ¬â¢t explain it to a six-year-old, you donââ¬â¢t understand it yourself.â⬠- Albert Einstein 9. "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed." - Ernest Hemingway The goal of every writer is to find their flow state AND stay there. à The Freewrite is a manifestation of Hemingwayââ¬â¢s idea. Ernest Hemingway suggests you sit down at your writing device and, figuratively, bleed. Let the thoughts flow, regardless of how difficult that may be. Leave the editing for later. 10. ââ¬Å"You canââ¬â¢t wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club.â⬠-Jack London Jack London went on to say, ââ¬Å"and if you donââ¬â¢t get it, you will nonetheless get something that looks remarkably like it.â⬠Jack London, an avid adventurer, found inspiration in all of his travels. He inspired generations of people to leave the comfort of home and explore the world. Donââ¬â¢t just sit back and wait for an idea to hit you. Go after it, and donââ¬â¢t forget your club! 11. ââ¬Å"Forget the books you want to write. Think only of the book you are writing.â⬠-Henry Miller How many unfinished novels do you have sitting on your hard-drive, aging like fine wines? We all do this. Dream up a brilliant idea, get a few thousand words into it, only to be whisked away by the next distraction. We all like to think that weââ¬â¢re capable multitaskers. However, multiple studies have shown that handling various tasks at once is not only damaging to the brain but also your career. Put your full creative energy into one project at a time. 12. ââ¬Å"If you donââ¬â¢t have time to read, you donââ¬â¢t have the time - or the tools - to write. Simple as that.â⬠Stephen King Stephen King has published a whopping 56 books as of today (5/7/18). The award-winning author still finds the time to read 70 books a year. He takes advantage of every idle moment in lobbies, waiting rooms, and checkout lines. Whatââ¬â¢s Stephenââ¬â¢s trick? Teach yourself to read in small sips as well as in long swallows. Now imagine two scenes: 1. The moon is shining. 2. A glint of light from the moon shines on the broken glass. Now, which one is more descriptive? Which scene is more enticing? Iââ¬â¢d choose the latter, and Iââ¬â¢m sure you would too. This quote is a classic case of ââ¬Å"show, donââ¬â¢t tell.â⬠Showing makes your writing far more interesting to read. Help move the reader along by adding some imagination and color to your passages. 14. "Never use a long word where a short one will do." -à George Orwell Eric Arthur Blair, better known by his pen name George Orwell, was an English writer famous for the novels1984andAnimal Farm. In the absence of skill, using long words makes you look pretentious. They also are awkward to read and interrupt the reader's flow. 15. "A short story must have a single mood and every sentence must build towards it." -Edgar Allen Poe Edgar Allen Poe is most noted for his poem, "The Raven." In books, you have time to let the story develop and breathe. You can risk adding details that you deem necessary. When writing short stories, youà must condense an entire story into a few pages. There isnââ¬â¢t any room for sentences that don't lead to the ending. 16. "Quantity produces quality. If you only write a few things, you're doomed." -à Ray Bradburyà When I was 16 years old, I decided that I wanted to work in content creation and online marketing. I took it upon myself to watch every video and read every bookà pertaining to writing and copy-writing. Eventually, I stumbled upon a video of Seth Godin offering advice to young college graduates. He left me with a lesson that I will NEVER forget. He said, ââ¬Å"move fast and break things.â⬠That inspired me to start my first blog. It quickly grew to 5,000 monthly page views. My first blog posts were horrendous, but I quickly learned what worked and what didnââ¬â¢t. Bradbury offers similar advice. Spend every free minute writing, even if you donââ¬â¢t plan to share it with the world. 17. ââ¬Å"Every sentence must do one of two things reveal character or advance the action." -Kurt Vonnegut In his 50-year writing career, Vonnegut published 14 novels, three short story collections, five plays, and five works of non-fiction. Combine Vonnegutââ¬â¢s and Poeââ¬â¢s advice into a single statement, every sentence of a short story must do one of three things reveal character, advance the action, or build towards a single mood. 18. ââ¬Å"The historian records, but the novelist creates.â⬠E. M. Forster Great novelists have the unique ability to invent their reality. E.M Foster, an English novelist, examined class difference and hypocrisy in early 20th century British society.A Room With A View, one of his most famous works, was turned into an award-winning movie in 1985. 19. ââ¬Å"Read, read, read. Read everything - trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it. Then write. If it's good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out of the window.â⬠-William Faulkner If I could offer you only one piece of advice for becoming a better writer, I would suggest this - read and write a lot. As you read and write more, you develop a better understanding of what is good and bad writing. William Faulkner, an American writer and Nobel Prize laureate had an insatiable drive to keep writing and was never completely satisfied with his work. 20. "You can fix anything but a blank page.â⬠-Nora Roberts Putting pen to paper is a recurring theme in this article. Weââ¬â¢ve heard Hemingway, Faulkner, Bradbury, and now Roberts offer similar advice. One of my favorite mentors, Jim Rohn, said, ââ¬Å"Success leaves clues.â⬠People who produce outstanding results do specific things to create those results. As writers, there are many ways to skin a cat, but the commonalities of successful writers remain. 21. ââ¬Å"You have to get to a very quiet place inside yourself. And that doesnââ¬â¢t mean that you canââ¬â¢t have noise outside. I know some people who put jazz on, loudly, to write. I think each writer has her or his secret path to the muse.â⬠-Maya Angelou I know Iââ¬â¢m not the only one to struggle with finding a quiet place inside myself. Iââ¬â¢ve tried everything from locking myself into a dark room, to hiding my cell phone, and listening to my favorite music. My secret path to the muse is listening to Binaural Beats. It starts with one. One character, one word, then one page. They key is, you have to start. 24. ââ¬Å"I went for years not finishing anything. Because, of course, when you finish something you can be judged.â⬠-Erica Jong Erica Jong is an American novelist and poet best known for her 1973 novel,à Fear of Flying.She shared her battle with finishing her work. For many writers, their works are their most personal possessions. Take solace in the fact that there is somebody out there who needs your writing. Philosophical Reflections - Assignment Example My moral beliefs trace back to what my parents taught me when I was a child, hence the principle that I try to apply towards other people is to do as I would be done by; however, I have to admit that I often forget about this golden rule of ethics and act the way it is convenient for me, which later makes me ashamed of my actions. The golden rule is the core of my religious ethics, as religion plays significant role in my life and I know that it is religion that have taught me to think of other people before doing something. I believe in God, because He leads me throughout my entire life and maybe sometimes I donââ¬â¢t realize it, at the end of the day I understand that there is some divine force that carries me to where I am and defends me in the face of this often cruel world. As for the life after death matter, I honestly canââ¬â¢t comment on this topic, as my religion says that indeed it exists; though I donââ¬â¢t rely on it and donââ¬â¢t expect it to come, because I try to live where I am now. In fact living now is what makes me feel that my life has a meaning and it is living itself. I enjoy every second of my life and this is the main point. However, I still have long-running plans, for instance, I want to make my family happy and establish prosperity in my life. Concerning truth, I think it is relative and each and every human being understands it differently. Though I believe that I think - therefore I exist and this is the doubtless thing I truly believe in and pretty sure it is the truth.
